The patch test: why we insist on it

Five minutes, 48 hours before colour. It is a legal requirement in the UK and the reason we can colour your hair safely.

The patch test: why we insist on it

Hair colour contains PPD and similar ingredients that a small number of people react to — sometimes after years of using colour without a problem. The patch test puts a small amount of the colour behind the ear and waits 48 hours. No reaction means the appointment goes ahead; a reaction means we have avoided a serious one on your scalp.

We ask for a patch test before your first colour with us, and again if it has been more than six months, if you have had a reaction to anything on your skin since, or if the product changes. It applies to full colour, roots, highlights, balayage, toners, beard colour and men's hair colour.

Book it online as its own five-minute appointment or pop in while you are passing.
